For the final concert of our 2015-16 season, we’ll present a collection of songs and arrangements written especially for the chorus through the years, including several new compositions. We will celebrate the work of many local composers and arrangers, including Jeff Wilson, Mark Alan DeWaters, David Diamond, and our own Artistic Director Robert Strauss, Principal Pianist Mark Brennan, and chorus member Dennis Rosenbaum.
In addition, we are honored to present a musical setting of Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise," composed by Jeff Cubeta and Carolyn Montgomery-Forant to pay tribute to the memory of Matthew Shepard and honor the great work of his mother, Judy, since his death. The piece, which premiered in Denver last December, is being presented by a handful of gay men's choruses across the country, and the RGMC is thrilled to have been selected as one of these choruses.
In large part, this concert will serve as an exciting preview of what we’ll be singing and sharing at the GALA Choruses Festival 2016 in Denver, Colorado.
